Shaky first steps

Welcome! It's day two of my new habit of writing a daily blog post. You'll have to bear with me for the first little while as I work out this new way of doing things.

One of the best ways to start a new habit is to piggyback your new habit onto another habit you already do. For example, if you want to start doing some push-ups each day, you could try doing 10 right before you have a shower. Every time you do the old, engrained habit, you also get a cue to do the new one.

I'm trying this method with my writing. But I'm having a little trouble working out the best habit to piggyback onto. I'd like to write in the evening to cap out my days, but I don't want to do it too close to bed time. So, I'm trying piggybacking the new writing habit on dinner - every time I eat dinner, I'll write on my blog.

On the second night in, I can already see this may not be the best plan. I already have a lot of other habits to that fit into this time slot. Some are good habits but some are unwanted habits which is why I'm going to stick with it for now. It's time for some reshuffling of my after dinner habits to fit this new one in!

Developing new habits is always a little shaky at first. You're still figuring it out and you don’t know for sure what will work. But that’s just it - if you were already good at it, then you wouldn't have to try to make it a new habit now would you?
